‘Bad luck Govind’ Review: good concept, bad execution!

The youth centered ‘Bad luck Govind’ by Varun Khanna is the launch vehicle of Vj Gaurav Kapoor who plays the protagonist. The movie revolves around ‘Govind’ who is very unlucky when it comes to ‘luck. Natural powers are shown to be so hostile to him that he brings in bad luck even to the people around him.

Govind(Kapoor) lands up in Mumbai from Delhi with the help of a TV anchor. The movie takes off from there. In the city Govind’s ‘bad luck’ brings him face to face with a bookie gang ( Parmeet Sethi, Govind Namdev, Zakir Hussain and the others) and young nurse( Hrishita Bhatt). Sethi decides to use Govind’s bad luck as a weapon on his rival gang. The climax talks about ‘bad luck’ being nothing but ‘a face of pessimism’. This makes the whole idea very bland, the reason being that the whole story revolves around Govind being tormented by the power of nature and destiny; the promotion of the movie even had the Buddhist chants written all over to proclaim that the whole movie has been inspired by them.

There are a lot of loose ends to the screenplay and it slacks at places. The movie ends up as a mediocre because neither can it categorize itself to the comedy genre nor the serious one. Acting wise, Kapoor is average and to think that he is a good theatre actor and an amazing VJ makes us wonder if he has been wasted in the role. Bhatt was once a promising face in Bollywood but time seems to have wasted her on trivial roles. Namdev and Hussain need to be a bit more ‘realistic’ rather than being ‘theatrical’. Parmeet Sethi does a good job and is worth a watch but one wonders as to how many people will watch it just for Sethi.

All in all the movie is based on a very interesting theme but Khanna is unable to cash on it. The movie could have been a laugh riot or a one with a message but it ends up being none. This weekend if you wish to spend some time out for with loved ones and have fun, it is  recommended  to ‘avoid’ this flick and get another option.

‘Bad luck Govind’ seems to have brought in no good luck for itself.
