Becks’ 107th England cap leaves him just one short of Bobby Moore’s

Ace footballer David Beckham’s four-minute appearance as a late substitute for Wayne Rooney at Wembley Stadium, where he helped England to a 3-1 World Cup qualifying victory over Belarus, earned him a remarkable 107th England cap on Thursday.

His achievement took him past Sir Bobby Charlton’s tally of 106 caps and within one of the late Bobby Moore’s 108, a record for an outfield England player.

The LA-based star said that reaching the 107 mark was incredible.

“It means more than you can imagine. To be up there with the likes of Billy Wright, Sir Bobby Charlton and Bobby Moore is amazing,” British tabloid The Sun quoted him as saying.

“Fifteen caps ago I would not have thought I would reach 100. If someone had turned round to me when I was a kid and said I would be between Sir Bobby Charlton and Bobby Moore and have 107 caps I would have loved it,” he added.

Beckham expressed his happiness over him being part of the England team, and insisted that the team’s performance meant more to him than earning caps.

“For it actually to happen is a dream come true, but I am honoured just to still be part of an England team which is playing with such confidence and playing some great football at the moment,” he said.

“I am so proud to be in this position but, at the end of the day, it is not about me. As long as the team is winning it doesn’t matter about me getting caps.

“I would not have been bothered about getting on in recent games as long as the team was playing well and winning, and as much as I would love to be on the pitch for longer, it is all about the team being successful,” he added. (ANI)
