Keira Knightley has revealed that she loves reading gloomy narratives of the Holocaust and mass murderers.
The 23-year-old English actress confessed digging her nose in bleak books on every opportunity that she gets.
Bernhard Schlink’s Holocaust novel “The Reader” is amongst her favourites and so is “Revolutionary Road” by Richard Yates, which is a story of a life struggling couple in 1950s America.
“(They are) two really depressing books but really good. Not exactly a barrel of laughs,” Contactmusic quoted the star as telling USA Today.
To her favourite category also belongs Gitta Sereny’s “Into That Darkness: From Mercy Killing to Mass Murder” - a story set in the World War II Nazi extermination camp, Treblinka.
Books of the acclaimed war author Martha Gellhorn too are much-loved by the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ actress.
“Not exactly happy, but interesting. Really great writing creates such amazing images,” she said.
“It’s a compilation of investigative journalism. She has just gone into Dachau. It’s awful, but the way she writes is wonderful,” she added. (ANI)
