Britney’s traffic case dismissed for being ‘a mistrial’

A jury has dismissed Britney Spears’ driving-without-license traffic case after declaring it as a ‘mistrial’.

The foreman in the open court said that the jury, which had deliberated for three days, had been deadlocked with the score of 10-2 with the majority favouring the singer’s innocence.

“The jury is hopelessly deadlocked, and I declare this a mistrial,” People magazine quoted Judge James A. Steele, who later dismissed the case, as stating.

The singer had been accused of driving without a valid California license arising from a fender-bender in August 2007 with her father Jamie Spears testifying.

Dad Spears had claimed in her defence that the singer intended to return to Louisiana, which she believed was her home.

Michael Flanagan, the 26-year-old’s attorney said: “Today’s outcome shows my client did nothing wrong. I consider this a victory. Britney was vindicated in that she took on a system that attempted to make an example of her celebrity.”

However, Prosecutor Michael Amerian felt differently and stated that he had no plans for a retrial adding: “It just goes to show you how difficult it is to convict a celebrity in Los Angeles.” (ANI)
