Broadway to dim lights in tribute to Paul Newman

Broadway’s theatre bosses will pay their tribute to late actor Paul Newman by dimming the lights of New York’s famous district for one minute on Friday.

At 8pm Eastern Time, marquees outside theatres across Broadway will lower their lights in recognition of Newman’s contribution to the New York stage.

Newman was a part of five Broadway productions, starting in 1953 with William Inge’s Picnic, where he met his future wife Joanne Woodward.

“After beginning his illustrious career on stage, his love for theatre continued throughout his life. His presence everywhere will be missed,” Contactmusic quoted Charlotte S. Martin, Executive Director of the Broadway League, as saying.

Newman lost his battle with cancer last Friday (26Sep08), at the age of 83. (ANI)
