Actress Genelia D’Souza is the host of this show with a unique concept .She looks stunning and is at her bubbly and vibrant best in the show. The basic format is that ten super rich youngsters have been given a partner each from the slums. Now each pair has to live in the slums with the normal day to day problems normally faced by people living in such dire conditions.

The real challenge is for the rich participants who normally would never have to face such circumstances in their real lives. There will be tasks given and those are like cooking chappaties, washing utensils, etc. On completion of the tasks points will be given. Each episode will have a different twist to it. The rich have a major challenge to face as they have to forego their luxurious lifestyle and live with very limited supply of essentials.

How much of the show will intrigue the audience only time will tell, but the winner gets rupees 10 lakhs as prize money. So, to say that this should be incentive enough for the participants to work hard and try winning the amount would not be wrong.

The participants are people like Adam Bedi, Pooja Mishra, and Natasha Suri etc.

Let’s hope the show does well after the flying start that it has got.

Speaking of the ladies sangeet, Shilpa looked stunning with her straight hair open and pinned back neatly. Both her hands had “Mehendi” or “Hena” on them and the colour of the “mehendi” has come out really beautifully. It is said according to Hindu beliefs that if on the bride’s hand and feet the colour of the “mehendi” is dark and beautiful then the bride gets a lot of love and affection from her in- laws. So Shilpa is lucky.

The sangeet began with some south Indian songs and then according to sources, Shamita Shetty performed a skit along with some others and it got everyone in splits of laughter.Then it is reported that Shilpa herself danced on the bollywood number from the film ‘Chandni’, ‘Mere haathon mein nau nau chudian hai’.

It was also reported that towards the end of the show both the families of the Shetty’s and the Kundra’s were supposed to perform together on the ‘Om Shanti Om’ title track so that this would remain a special moment of remembrance for them all.

Designer Nikhil Mehra says, “Raj is very stylish. We have designed a vintage black sherwani with appliqué work and self-stripes. He wanted subtle bling into the outfit, so we’ve added muted swarovski crystals.”

Tahiliani says, “I’ve used vibrant colors, brocade and crystallized Swarovski elements for Shilpa’s wedding dress, which is a stunning sari-drape in red, covered all over in ruby and Swarovski pearls.”
Ishu Datwani of Anmol Jewellers that has designed Shilpa’s bridal jewellery says, “She will be covered from head to toe in uncut diamonds.”

The couple will then take off for Bahamas for their honeymoon. “The honeymoon has been planned by Raj after doing a lot of research about places that Shilpa has not been to,” reveals a source.
Shilpa visited Siddhivinayak temple with Kundra and sister Shamita on Wednesday to seek divine blessings. This has always been a favorite place for the Bollywood stars before they start of with something like this!

The two are to tie the auspicious knot on this day, it all happened on the behest of Raj’s parents, sister along with his brother-in-law as everyone wanted the two to settle down.

It was during the Valentines Day that Raj had presented Shilpa with a heart shaped ring and then a few days later in March when the two had gone to Surrey, UK he bought her a big mansion there. It was during this time that the two had decided to fix a date by this year end.

So, according to a source, It was Shilpa’s Mother who fixed up a date for the engagement.On the 24th of October the two were engaged and a pre Punjabi ceremony called Roca was held. (This is to confirm the legitimacy of the couple). Since Raj is a Punjabi, this ceremony was held to solemnize the relationship. The big surprise came when Raj took out a flawless 20- carat Diamond ring and put it on her finger. Everyone including Shilpa was surprised for a few seconds.

According to a socialite, the ring has been designed by The British Jewelers, Boodles, with a few valuable tips from Raj himself.
Raj Kundra is a high profile 34 year old businessman and has a flair for the finer things in life. In India he manages Shilpa’s production House and also co holds the IPL team, Rajasthan Royals with Shilpa. Apart from that this high profile businessman is the owner of a reputed business Enterprise which trades in precious stones in Dubai.

However it was none other than Manish Malhotra who created Shilpa’s designer sari which was a pansy pink chiffon one and the blouse was an earth colored one, it made her look stunning to say the least.Even Shilpa’s parent’s clothes were designed by Manish.

The engagement was held at the posh upgrade Juhu house of Raj in Mumbai. According to a socialite the catering was done by China Garden Mumbai. It was a chic menu and the starters had Corn Cream, Chow Chu Prawns, Fish with black Olives, Chicken Sumai(steamed),Lettuce Wraps Stuffed Vegetables, Cottage Cheese(Paneer) ,Vegetable Shanghai dumpling. The main course was Veg teppan Soba,Egg fried rice, Fortune rice, stir fried Chinese greens, Kung Pao potato with okra, Special veggies Thai curry, butter garlic prawns,Sapo chicken etc. The dessert had items like date pancake, Caramel Custard, chocolate Mouse, Honey noodles with Vanilla ice cream.

There was no hi fi party for any of the film folk as Shamita, Shilpa’s younger sister was in the reality show Big Boss and was not at home.The couple had since gone off to gain spiritual blessings from spiritual gurus Amma Bhagvan and Kalki Bhagvan of the Oneness University in a place called Varadaiahpalem in Chitoor, Andhra Pradesh.

The couple had got permission for special sessions of blessings over a few days from the spiritual gurus to lead a happy and contended married life. We wish them the best too.

On her Sangeet today, she will wear a hot pink and other vibrant colors silk kaftan with zari work and Swarovski crystals done by Tarun Tahiliani.

Shilpa’s sister Shamita will be wearing a gold and peach salwar kameez designed by Manish Malhotra today, and for the wedding, an anarkali-cut salwar-kameez in mauve and blue by Tarun Tahiliani.

The groom, Raj Kundra is not much behind. Designer duo Shantanu-Nikhil has designed a chic black sherwani with trousers for Raj for the reception. He wanted subtle bling into the outfit, so the designer duo has added muted Swarovski crystals.

Even the wedding card speaks for the fairy tale wedding! Each card costs Rs.500 and is designed by Delhi designer Ravish Kapoor. The card envelope has a tied around seal with a lavish broach with the first letters of Shilpa’s and Raj’s first names along with the date of their wedding. The wedding has a regal touch and the card shows that.

There are various big names in the invitee list. It is reported that Shilpa has invited Jermaine Jackson and Shane Warne for the wedding. Also said that cards are being sent to Amitabh Bachchan and family, SRK and family, the Kapoors, Rekha, Farah Khan, Farhan Akhtar, Karan Johar, the Deols, Sushmita Sen, Salman Khan and the liquor baron Vijay Malya! There will be a star studded reception on 24th Nov after the 22nd Nov wedding and the duo is reported to fly off to the Bahamas for their one-month long honeymoon!

With so much of hypes and sparkles all around, it seems the Shettys and the Kundras don’t really bother about the finance part when it comes to this high profile wedding. The stunning bride Shilpa must be eagerly waiting for her groom Raj to come in a chariot to the wedding venue on Sunday afternoon.

Coming to the film this actor had great time working for his home production! There’s a lot of camaraderie between Abhishek and him. Not only this he even fooled around with his son on the sets and admits that this is what they usually do when home!
He observed his grandchildren and how they behave at home since he is playing a 13year old! When asked that whether he tried to remember his childhood or not he said that children then and children now have hell lot of difference! He also revealed that Abhishek was a brat when he was 13 years of age! Now that sounds interesting.

Talking about his makeup for the role of Auro he said that it took 6 and 1/2 hrs to put the cylindrical helmet on and off! Not only this he was not in position to eat or do something else with that make up on. Now that’s too much for 64years old actor! But he has done it all!

He has also talked about sharing notes with Aamir and Shahrukh, taking suggestion or giving it back. To talk about their ventures. He expects them to be on the premiere of the show on Dec 3rd.

We expect that Auro wins every heart and break all records and wins Oscars which is known as the Mecca for the Film industry.

It was very much a providential let off coz had they been passing a little more closely by the door, they could have copped some serious injuries.

They had reportedly gone to Gurgaon on a promotional call for their latest venture ‘Kurbaan’.

Referring to the near fatal accident, a source from Dharma Productions, who was accompanying the duo said, “Saif and Bebo were at the PVR Ambience in Gurgaon for the film’s promotion. Nearly, 75,000 people came to see the ‘it’ couple. It is one of the largest malls in India. Each mall is more than 1 km long and there were thronging crowds at the atria area. There were nine floors; each was packed with fans.”

Though the security was in place to ward off any danger, the number of people at the ‘Ambience’ swelled massively and with all falling at the door of a shop to catch a glimpse of the couple, the door eventually gave way.

Saif however brushed off the incident saying, ‘I think such things are too trivial to talk about.”

We can only say, ‘Phew!’

Let’s check out some of her extravaganzas. While designer Tarun Tahiliani has designed Shilpa’s outfits for all four occasions, designer duo Shantanu-Nikhil has designed a chic black sherwani with trousers for Raj for the reception. Designer Nikhil Mehra says, “Raj is very stylish. We have designed a vintage black sherwani with appliqué work and self-stripes. He wanted subtle bling into the outfit, so we’ve added muted swarovski crystals.”

Tahiliani says,  “I’ve used vibrant colors, brocade and crystallized Swarovski elements for Shilpa’s wedding dress, which is a stunning  sari-drape in red, covered all over in ruby and Swarovski pearls.”
Ishu Datwani of Anmol Jewellers that has designed Shilpa’s bridal jewellery says, “She will be covered from head to toe in uncut diamonds.”

The couple will then take off for Bahamas for their honeymoon. “The honeymoon has been planned by Raj after doing a lotof research about places that Shilpa has not been to,” reveals a source.
Shilpa visited Siddhivinayak temple with Kundra and sister Shamita on Wednesday to seek divine blessings. This has always been a favourite place for the Bollywood stars before they start of with something like this!

The film has been named “Mother: The Indira Gandhi Story” and the event was declared the 92^nd birth anniversary of the late prime minister on Thursday. The Golden Globe nominee Shah has been writing the script of the film for the last 23years and the movie is to hit the screen by 2011 end. The pre-production of the film is already done and the shooting is expected to start by April 2010 in India, Britain, US and Russia.

“I have followed Indira Gandhi’s life through media, books and critics. It’s such an exciting and dramatic story. I want the future generation to know her story. A whole new generation has grown and matured since her assassination and through this film I hope to connect people with their history and legacy,” Shah said in the press conference.

Apart from Madhuri in the film, there are some other big names as well. Legend Dharmendra is to play Motilal Nehru while Abhay Deol and Nana Patekar are approached to play Rajeev Gandhi and Jayaprakash Narayan respectively. Hollywood star Tom Hanks or Tommy Lee Jones will probably be playing the role of former US president Lyndon Baines Johnson.

The film will be made into two parts. First part will show starting from Indira’s birth to her victory against Pakistan in 1971 while the second part will cover her political journey from the rise of Sanjay Gandhi till her assassination. The movie will be in Hinglish and will have no songs in it.

It seems Shah has done some real research on Indira project for all these 23years. “It’s such an exciting, dramatic story. The canvas of her life is too big to be contained in one film,” Shah commented on Indira’s life.

She became a single mom in 2000 by adopting Renee and this time she thinks of completing her family by going for another one. What makes us wonder is how she manages all this. The movie has the longest kissing scene that is shot much intensely to show the couple’s wild love chemistry on silver screen!

Kurbaan is directed by Rensil D’Silva and produced by Karan Johar. The film features Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor in pivotal roles along with actor Vivek Oberoi and Dia Mirza. The movie is about Islamic terrorism with a romantic backdrop.
Kareena is sizzling hot and Saif is too sexy. It seems Kurbaan will act the “heater” this winter. With so much of fire, I believe no one is going to miss the movie…

Recently at an event for the promotion of watches when Aishwariya was asked about her take on Katrina Kaif’s Barbie hitting the market on the first week Aishwariya replied,”I was asked by that brand (Barbie), not just now but, I think, since Miss World, then at the turn of millennium, then when my films were raging success after Canes and this year was the fourth time actually that I was requested by Barbie to walk the ramp on a particular day.”

“But I was a committed professional working with Vipul Shah and he needed my date on that day so I was unable to accept that offer to walk the ramp that particular day for them.”

The former Miss Universe became a single mother in 2000 when she adopted Renee and she feels that it’s time now to complete her family.  She is keen to adopt a baby, preferable baby girl, as a sibling for Renee and to become mother for the second time.

If buzz is to be believed Sushmita has been visiting adoption centers lately. A source was quoted by Mid-Day as saying, “She became particularly fond of a newborn but then it was found that the baby was too young.”

She was also spotted shopping at an international baby wear brand outlet in Bandra. A shopper revealed that Sushmita was seen trying out baby sling carrier and also surveying all the baby stuffs on display in the store.

Are these all hints that Sushmita wants to have another baby? Or are were speculating too much? Left to all to decide…

Director Balki confirms the news and says, “Paa is a film that celebrates the spirit of childhood and Amitji does play a 12-year-old in the film. So we thought that the premiere venue should have a child-friendly ambience. We had initially planned to have Amitji dressed and made-up as Auro, his character in the film, standing at the main door of the premiere to receive guests.

We can very well predict that this movie will break all the records and will create a history! And who knows it might go to an extent of bagging the Oscars! Wow! Now that’s what you call an achievement!

The reason why our stars are not upset in getting any award at any one award function is that there will always be another award function where you never know the same person could get nominated for various categories and may win in one or many of them.

The fact that each one is entitled to his or her opinion is ofcourse true as far as these awards go. There are certain predictions we would like to make in the actors category.

The best performance has definitely come from Mr. Perfectionist Khan aka Aamir Khan in Ghajini of course. Every thing from his haircut to his intense look to his dialogues was just par excellence.

Next following very closely comes ShahRukh Khan as the simplistic Suri in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. He has done a commendable job in taking all the sympathy from the audience by playing the character so convincingly.

The actor who has done a real good job is also one with a flair of coming out with something new each time. Yes, that is Saif Ali Khan. In Love Aaj Kal he has done a commendable job as the stylish Jai and also as the strong Veer.

Speaking of top actors who can forget Shahid Kapoor? His role in Kaminey has certainly given him more brownie points and after Vivah, Jab we met and Kismat Konnection he is everyone’s favourite.

So what awaits at the awards to come only time can tell but atleast we can start by short listing the ones that we consider worth while. Lets wait and watch what the masters have in store for the stars .Happy guessing!

Recently  they are seen everywhere together for the promos of their movie Kurbaan. In an interview with Karan Johar in Zoom the nawab expressed his love and passion for the film as well as his lady love.  When asked about their chemistry onscreen and what benefit do they get of being an offscreen couple both of them talked of the comfort zone which a couple offscreen can show onscreen. “Things  become easy and real expresssions  comes out automatically. You don’t have to put in much effort”.  The scintillating scenes in the movie will tell its fate after its release on Nov 20th.

Both Bebo and  Bebo’s Saifu putting a lot of hard work for the publicity of the film. When asked whether marriage is in the cards or not the answer was a full stop atleast for  4-5 years as both needs to achieve their desired goals. Saif is concentrating more in his production house and Kareena with her upcoming movies.  Kareena is already engaged in playing the role of mother and bringing up Saifu’s two children Sarah and Ibrahim and she says she is blessed to have them.

With time we will be able to see whether the Jodi makes it to the mark of becoming the next Nawab Pataudi and Sharmila Tagore duo of not.

Well, the fact that there was so much originality in the songs and the way the Indian Ragas have been incorporated in most of the compositions is a matter to be understood.

There was a time when there were days and days of rehearsals before a two minute song was recorded. There were no dubbing techniques or modern facility to speak of. Yet each song had such haunting melodies that even today they sound great.

Songs like Saamne yeh kaun aya, Oh Hasina zulfo wali Jaane Jaana, Din Hai Suhana aaj pehli Taarikh hai, have all been used as catch lines for various commercials at some point or another. Remixes of innumerable songs have come up from time to time, yet, the original has not been forgotten by die hard fans of bollwood old song fans.

However, good times have again come for bollywood music. Every new movie releasing has astounding music and meaningful songs which the audience is lapping up happily. All music stores are doing well and it seems that the golden period of bollywood music is back. With so many channels spurning out winners on the reality based competitions, there are so many singers and thankfully many are getting a break into bollywood to sing as professional singers.

So it is surely a time of great music and melodious songs albeit with tough competition, as each singer is sounding better than the other. Amongst all this the audience is getting full value for money along with entertainment.

It was very early during his school days that he decided to join the film industry. Being the first grand son of the veteran actor par excellence Raj Kapoor, he was very much in awe of his majestic line of film personalities at home. Thus, right after completing his class XII in Mumbai he left for The United States for a course in films. He joined acting school there.

Even though his dad Rishi Kapoor wanted him to join a course in formal education, when Ranbir decided to go for the acting course his dad gave consent and thus started Ranbirs tough life in the ‘US’ just like any other ordinary kid.

Fast forward to 2009 and we have a very confident yet down to earth Ranbir who according to sources is a very dedicated guy as far as his career goes. He is so much engrossed in his work that he sometimes tends to forget about his loved ones, atleast that’s what the people associated with him say.

The actors forth coming movies are Shimit Amin’s Rocket Singh Salesman of the year,
Rajneeti etc. So here’s wishing him all the luck for his next release, keep watching this column for more.

Directed by the popular Raju Hirani(of Munnabhai fame), the film also stars the powerhouse-of-talent Boman Irani(who plays the headmaster once again) & the gorgeous Kareena Kapoor , whose sizzling chemistry with co-star Amir is the talk of the town as they dance themselves to euphoria under the good, old rain.

The trailers have been on air for quite  some time now and are garnering huge responses from the frenzied fans all across the globe. Expectations are building up fast and it will reach a monstrous monumental size by the time Santa Claus arrives. Will Amir deliver again ???

The prosthetic makeup which Amitabh had to wear for this role were jointly overseen by noted Hollywood makeup artists, Christian Tinsley of  ‘Passion of Christ’ and ‘Cat woman’ fame and Dominie Till of the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy.

Some anecdotes from the shooting days reveal that once when the film was being shot in Delhi, Big B had to report for makeup at two in the morning for a 6o’ clock shift. What brings out his sincere dedication for this venture is that the previous night he had to attend a party at good friend Amar Singh’s residence and returned after midnight and could barely catch a wink of sleep, but yet he made it for the makeup session bang on time.

Further evidences of his dedication are borne out by the fact before shoots he used to spend hours hobnobbing with kids in order to internalize the ways of a thirteen year old which he had to portray in the film.

On the other hand we have the ever popular ‘Ghajini’ girl Asin as Kalpana in the movie; she has made a very good place for herself in the industry with her debut film with of course ‘Mr. Perfectionist’, Aamir Khan. Her new release ‘London Dreams’ is also one movie where Asin is getting good reviews for her performance.

Priyanka Chopra has been one of the most successful heroines and she has proved it time and time again. Her role as Meghna Mathur, in Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Fashion’, has been very convincing with many aspiring models, identifying with her role in the film.

Konkona Sen Sharma is a note worthy actress in her own genre of films. The latest of her releases ‘Luck By Chance’ has shown this lady’s penchant for acting and she has distinctly traveled a long way from her ‘Mr. And Mrs. Iyer’ and ‘Life in a Metro’ days.

Speaking of new faces, who can forget Anushka Sharma the fresh leading lady of the ShahRukh starrer ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’? This stunning actress made her presence felt with a capital ‘P’ and is flooded with roles of which some are on the floors right now.

With such talented actresses it is certainly going to be tough competition for the others to keep on top of this Rat Race, let’s see who wins accolades.

As the title of the film suggests, ‘Jail’ is a film much to the affect of showing the ordinary man what lies behind those deadly dark doors.

The story goes like this-Neil (Parag Dixit) is into a sales job, busy trying to meet his targets and having some good moments with Mughda (Mansi) an air hostess. Then suddenly due to a series of events Parag gets caught up in a false allegation which lands him to jail.

The jail scenes are shot very realistically. Parag Dixit is the protagonist who is very frustrated as his bail is not granted and he is not allowed to open his mouth to say a word in his own defense. His frustrations keep building up and he gets violent at times. The description of the dark over crowded jail is considerably scary. Mughda (Mansi) has nothing much to do except be a supportive girlfriend and to shed tears and console Parag. Manoj Bajpai plays a prisoner called Nawab, who develops a soft corner for Parag, but has nothing much to do either, except give soulful glances to Parag.

The realistic descriptions of fight for little water, food which would hardly be edible, the under currents of the under world are all a little nerve rattling. The “Anda cell” scene was particularly scary.

Even though, the performances are all at par, Neil is definitely good, so is Manoj Bajpai, albeit his role had less dialogue, he managed a good depiction. Arya Babbar is quite convincing with his tough looks.

The movie on the whole is a hard hitting realistic one, but the magic of Madhur’s earlier movies-‘Page 3’, ‘Chandni Bar’, ‘Fashion’, etc., is missing. In ‘Jail’, however the horror does not get to the point of being horrific; rather, the plot seems to be too simplistic.

The three times National award winner has not delivered it up to those levels of expectations and the audiences even though were touched, they were not able to reach the poignancy level.

Somehow one fails to relate to the protagonists’ pain and frustrations. On the whole one should watch it to see what life behind those bars can be like and nothing more.

Going by the title of the film there is no ‘ghazab’ story. Having said that the story line has nothing new in it – it is rather one which is typical bollywood.

The story goes like this –Ranbir (Prem) is a happy go lucky guy whose dad is fed up of telling him to take life more seriously. But he inevitably falls in love with Katrina (Jenny). Just as he was planning to spill the beans on her there is a ‘kabab mein haddi’, that is –he comes to know she likes another guy; ‘Upen Patel’
(Rahul)-this makes him shut up like a clamp. He tries helping her with her problems in the progress of the affair when she suddenly realizes her feelings for Prem instead.

Prem’s parents played by Darshan Jariwala and Smita Jaykar are very much a requisite and important part of the film, providing the punch lines to pep things up. Upen Patel with his anglicized Hindi is average. The film ends on a happy note. There are many hilarious moments in the film with the bad versus the good tug of war situations. The best part of the film is actually Ranbir Kapoor. He has indeed proved that he does belong to the ‘Kapoor Khandaan’, the real movie stalwarts of bollywood. Ranbir has become much better than the kid he was, and is very convincing in his role as a love struck lover who has a soft gullible heart. The comic timings of Ranbir are too good. His presence in every scene is very much a pleasure to watch and sometimes one just can’t help comparing him with his grand-father, while he jumps from one scene to another.

His dancing skills also are a perfect reminder of his dad. His knack for converting an ordinary scene into an interesting one comes across in many scenes. Katrina is very good eye candy and her scenes with Ranbir are good as far as their chemistry goes. Her acting skills are well presented like the scenes where they are upset, are quite amusingly shot. Even the ‘saawariya towel’ act was quite funny. It has been shot in exotic locations in Oty, Goa and Turkey and is shot wonderfully, especially the locations.

The music is very good and ‘Tera hone laga hoon’ beats it up. Yet the only attraction in the film is the ‘Kapoor puttar’ and Kat’s chemistry. We do hope that the audiences go in with not very high expectations but just with a hope of 150 minutes of pure entertainment. So go ahead and enjoy.

The proceeds collected from auctioning of these paintings would be given to a non-profit organisation working for the uplift of the elderly.

It was a joy to notice that after creating magic for the reel life, Bollywood directors and actors used brushstrokes for a noble cause in real life.

An initiative of HelpAge India, the painting event was held to raise funds for the benefit and upliftment of the elderly from the auction of paintings made by the Bollywood celebrities and famous painter Anjanna Kuthiala.

“It is a platform of heart and HelpAge is a good organisation which working to help the people and it is our good luck to be associated with it,” said Shekhar Suman, actor.

For some of them, it was an emotional event and related to their personal lives.

“Actually after living for almost 40 years abroad, I”ve now moved to India mainly because my mother has turned 80 and I want to be with her. Because I feel that way, it was very important for me that I should come and talk about HelpAge and do whatever I can for this cause,” said Jagmohan Mundra, a film producer.

Traditionally, several generations of one family have lived under the same roof, with the grandparents often taking care of their grandchildren while the parents go to work.

But while this remains the case in most rural households, city dwellers are increasingly moving out of the family home, leaving the older generation to live alone.

“No person can rise in his talent without others support, especially in this industry. Unless you have the support of others, you are nowhere. So, I would like to congratulate everybody of the film industry, who supported me from director to music director, assistant, spot boy, all my leading ladies and all my leading men that I had the good fortune to work with, because of whom I was able to spend so many years in the industry,” said Bachchan.

“I do want to thank primarily the people of my country for giving me their love, their support, their affection and their prayers on many an occasion, trial and tribulation that I have gone through and I truly feel very, very humble in their presence. May they continue to like what we do and hopefully the few years that are left in my career, may they continue to enjoy what we do,” Bachchan added.

Around 200 films from 56 countries where showcased in this event. White Lightnin’ directed by Dominic Murphy was got the best film award, Greek filmmaker Theo Angelopoulos was also honored with a Lifetime Achievement award. And last but not the least, Devanand’s home production house Navketan films also got felicitated for completing 60 years in the film industry.

We see the familiar faces on the small screen cajoling us in their alluring and well recognized voices-be it the deep baritone of Amitabh Bachchan, the nasal twang of SRK or the husky tones of Rani Mukerjee, to open up our wallets and fatten the bank accounts of a myriad brands. Love them or hate them we cannot escape from celebrity-endorsed advertisements. So why pay to the tune of crores to these giant egos when even an unknown face can do the same? So what exactly were advertisements conceptualized to do? Back in the early 19th century, the main forms of advertisements were the newspapers and pamphlets. Well-drawn cartoons and witty punch lines written in bold letters did the trick of informing the masses about the launch of a new revolutionary product or to make them aware of the change in price of existing ones. So that is what advertisements are supposed to do. A very simple and integral part of marketing and a very convenient way to reach a large consumer base. When the magical medium television entered the scene with a bang, advertisements grew and became a multi-billion dollar industry worldwide. That is when the bright minds of the industry came up with the idea of using celebrities to urge people to buy the showcased products. They feel that since people look up to the stars as their role models, their words may create a greater impact on their minds than a regular model’s. Moreover, it has also become a status symbol for the uber rich corporate houses to rope in more and more elusive and sought after names as a part of their stable. That is the reason why SRK can quote a price of 7 to 8 crores per advertisement in the recession hit market and Ash pours up to 4 crores into her kitty with every Lux or Loreal that she endorses.

But we should pause a moment to consider, do these slickly made, ultra expensive advertisements really influence our buying? I mean come on, every middle class housewife knows that a thousand costly facials and treatments are the secret behind Katrina Kaif’s flawless complexion and not the bathing bar Dyna, which she so glibly praises. Nor do men expect to emerge unscathed through a raging tornado on a bike like matinee idol Hrithik Roshan. So when we buy a product because our favorite star is endorsing it, do we do so because we have faith in the quality of the product or do we appreciate the ability of the brand to spend money lavishly by making improbable advertisements??

Some of the most touching advertisements like the ones made by LIC feature little known faces and leave an indelible print on our hearts because of the human emotions they portray. The time may soon come when the corporate houses will realize the same and stop preferring celebrities over regular models. 9Xm has already started the trend. Gelusil and Ponds use their unique channel mascots the “Beetel Nuts” and “Bheegi Billi” to promote their products. It is a refreshing change. These cute as buttons animated figures do look more real than Akshay Kumar risking his life for a bottle of Thums up!!!

If a composer takes all the credit for hit songs, then he is equally responsible for the failure of any film’s music at least that is what the composer himself thinks.  As the character played by Amitabh is suffering from the disease, so he has no hair on his body and has only five teeth. He is almost thirteen years old in the film so he has aged to about sixty five years.Amitabh is called ‘Auro’ in the film and his make up used to take almost five hours to transform him into this over grown child. It is reported that before shooting, the director R Balki sat to discuss a few things with Abhishek regarding the movie. After sometime, Abhishek asked where his dad was. When he was told that the over grown child standing right in front of him was his dad he just couldn’t believe it. That is to say that the make up was so perfectly done that even Abhishek couldn’t recognize his own dad.

It is also reported that while on shoot Amitabh used to behave like a child and cry loudly and ask for chocolates. It was necessary to keep chocolates for the film as it is good for a person suffering from this disease to eat chocolates. Taking advantage Amitji had a good time but others were tensed as the doctor’s advice for him was ‘No chocolates at all’.Well, all said and done the film will be releasing soon, so keep watching this column for more.

The film, an out-and-out laugh riot, is a story based on mistaken identities and consequent misunderstandings.

Directed by David Dhawan, who has been credited with churning out some memorable comedies, the film stars some prominent actors like Govinda, Sushmita Sen, Riteish Deshmukh, Lara Dutta and Sohail Khan.

The film’s story revolves around a rich businessman who in trying to hide his extra marital affair with a supermodel lands into complications.

He tries to save his skin by bribing a waiter to play the supermodel’s boyfriend and what follows are a number of twist and turns leading to misunderstandings and mistaken identities.

“Its about situations in life. There are so many things in life that you are not supposed to do but you end up doing that. Whatever you are not supposed to do, people love doing those things, they get caught and then their simple straight lives are entangled in knot and that’s why we have a K-N-O-T, knot, ‘Do Knot Disturb’. It’s a roller coaster ride for the audiences. I’m sure that there are extremely funny scenes and each and every character in this film will make you laugh,” said Riteish Deshmukh.

The philandering businessman’s role is essayed by Govinda while former Miss Universe, Sushmita Sen plays the role of his sophisticated wife.

“I play a very good wife in the film and what does a good wife tell her husband? Do not lie. But of course which husband listens, here also nobody is listening,” said Sushmita Sen.

The film promises to rock the audiences with its comic twists and turns and is slated for release on October 2 this year. (ANI)

In What’s Your Rashee? Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, Chopra will be seen in 12 different characters. Actor Harman Baweja plays the lead role in the film.

The film is based on a well-known novel ‘Kimball Ravenswood’ by Madhu Rye.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, Chopra said she found the role of a Capricornian the most challenging in the film.

“The most difficult character for me to play in the movie was the role of a Capricorn, who is a fifteen-year-old girl and to play that role convincingly was very difficult for me without making a joke out of it. In reality you have to feel the emotion of the character when you watch the film. I think that was my favourite role because it was very challenging for me,” Chopra added.

Gowariker said that the tough part of making the movie was to adapt the novel into a screenplay.

“As far as the concept is concerned or the source material for the film, I am looking at the novel very intensely, Kimball Ravenswood. So for me that became the easy part because I did not have to worry about what kind of story. The tough part was to adapt that into screenplay for film, that was difficult because you cannot bring everything from a novel into the film. You have to make changes,” said Gowariker.

The film, What’s Your Rashee? is about a groom and his rendezvous with 12 prospective brides.
The movie is scheduled to be released on September 25. (ANI)

One of the best loved children stories, which first appeared in ‘The Book of One Thousand and One Nights’ has been adapted by film maker Sujoy Gosh to cater to the audience.

‘Aladin’ boasts of a commendable star cast, including Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan and Sri Lankan beauty queen Jacqueline Fernandez.

‘Aladin’ is the story of an orphan, Aladin, played by actor Riteish Deshmukh who lives in the city of Khwaish and is bullied since childhood by Kasim and his gang.

How his life takes a turn when he meets Jasmine played by Jacqueline, who gives him a magic lamp and what happens after that, forms the basic plot of the film.

Riteish Deshmukh, who has made a mark in comic roles, sounded quite excited to take a break from comedy and do something different.

“Aladin primarily is fun. It has romance, action and adventure, so it is complete family kind of a film. There will be funny bits, but it’s not the kind of stuff that I’ve done before,” Riteish said.

For Jacqueline, who is making her debut with this film, acting in a Hindi film was quite a tough thing to do.

“I would say its possibly one of the most challenging thing I’ve done in my life. It definitely was difficult to learn any language but I had a great team working with me. I had very cooperative co-stars and very cooperative director. It just made it all the more easier,” said Jacqueline.

The film seems a good mix of magic and action and promises to floor the audiences with its new storyline.

The film will release on October 30. (ANI)

“It’s my privilege that Dev Saab asked me for this favour and I simply agreed to it. Till date, I haven’t become any Minister and I never wanted to become one. In fact, I never thought of becoming the Home Minister. So no matter whether it’s just in the film, ” said Amar Singh.

The 85-year-old Bollywood veteran approached the 53-year-old Amar Singh with a role considering him suitable for the character. He said that the role revolves around politics.

“Amar Singh is playing the role of Home Minister. It would be correct if a Home Minister would do politics. Because I knew him as a friend, he was easily accessible to me and I approached him,” said Dev Anand.

A part of the film will be shot at Amar Singh’s official residence at Lodhi Estate after the elections. (ANI)

The 49-year-old actor, who played the role of TV host in the Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire, will be honoured with the screenings of two classic films in which he stars, 1991’s Lahme and 1997’s Virasat, as well as Gandhi, My Father, which he produced.

“I am humbled and honoured that my work as an actor and film-maker has been chosen to receive such a fantastic tribute,” Contactmusic quoted Kapoor as saying.

“We would like a legislation to be put in place to deal with piracy. We would like the experienced and judicious process so that there is a real deterrent. We will work and meet with the government and try to advocate our case as well as the local industry. They have the exact same problem as we do,” said Michael C Ellis, president and managing director of Asia Pacific Association of producers.

“In some respect, their problems are worse because we have a very big global market whereas the Indian film, the global market is lot smaller,” added Michael.

Hawkers selling cheap pirated CDs and DVDs on busy Indian streets find easy patrons among many cost-conscious consumers who pay less than one dollar for a disc instead of going to a multiplex with tickets priced at about three dollars

Industry estimates say this means more than 400 million dollars in revenue loss for India’s entertainment industry.

Bollywood, the world’s largest film industry by ticket sales, is worth about 85 billion rupees and is forecast to more than double to 175 billion rupees by 2011.

Bollywood film director and producer Mukhesh Bhatt said entertainment tax must be cut to reduce piracy.

“Entertainment tax should be reduced so that there will be a fall in the rate of the ticket. And the poor people who are not in a condition to afford will be able to purchase the ticket. Then piracy will be able to control of its own,” said Bhatt.

Bollywood films’ growing popularity abroad has fed a thriving bootleg industry in countries such as Britain, the United States and Pakistan.

To limit the drain on profits, some Indian studios have gone after the pirates, identifying with the help of police shops stocking bootleg CDs and DVDs and seizing disc writing equipment.

But these steps have achieved little, and experts say that that is mainly due to weak law enforcement and a lack of awareness.

Breach of copyright laws is punishable by prison for up to three years, but most pirates get away paying a nominal fine. (ANI)
