Cricket Australia divided over Symonds recall

Australian all rounder Andrew Symonds possible recall to the team took a mysterious twist last night after selectors delayed naming the team for next week’s All Stars exhibition Twenty20 match at the Gabba.

Teams for the game were due to be announced on Friday but it is understood there was division in Cricket Australia ranks over whether to bring Symonds back, the Daily Telegraph reported.

It is believed the ACA All Star team was reluctant to pick Symonds because it felt it would be unfair to pit him against his former Australian teammates.

The Daily Telegraph earlier this week reported that Symonds had virtually completed his CA rehabilitation program and has been cleared to be available for Australian selection, but there are issues over his form for Queensland.

There is a strong push to play Symonds in next week’s Twenty20 clash, but CA bosses and national selectors want more time to deliberate the issue before announcing the Australian team on Monday.

It will be a nervous wait for Symonds whose hopes of playing in the first Test against New Zealand on November 20 will nosedive if he does not play next week. (ANI)
