Dave Matthews turns 43! A Recap of his life!
Today is South African-American Grammy Award-winning musician, and actor David John “Dave” Matthews’ birthday. The lead vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist for the Dave Matthews Band has also earned name in businesses, politics, charities and controversies.
Matthews owns 1,340 acres of land near Scottsville, Virginia where he grows organic vegetables, flowers, and herbs. He also has a 4-acre land for wine-growing operation, which utilizes gravity flow and other gentle winemaking techniques.
Matthews have forever been performing for noble causes such as music education, Hurricane Katrina victims, farmers, victims of the Virginia Tech shooting etc. His band has a charitable organization, the Bama Works Fund.
In 2004, Matthews performed at political events including the Vote for Change tour to promote Democratic nominee John F. Kerry. Matthews also supported Barack Obama in the primaries and in the general election for President in 2008.
Matthews’ Band got into controversy when their driver thought it was okay to dump the human waste of the tour van over a bridge into the Chicago River on August 8, 2004. 800 pounds of human waste fell flat upon more than 100 people in a boat on a tour of Chicago architecture and needless to say it polluted the water as well. The band had to bear a hefty fine of $200,000 and the driver was kicked out of his job. (Info: Wikipedia)
