Emma Thompson slams ‘prudish’ US critics

Actress Emma Thompson has hit back at the critics for condemning her new movie Brideshead Revisited, insisting they are too ‘prudish’ to enjoy the saucy tale.

The film based on Evelyn Waugh’s 1945 novel received negative reviews with The New York Times dubbed it a “lazy, complacent film which takes the novel’s name in vain,” while the Washington Post claimed it “does not hold up the integrity of the book”.

The 49-year-old actress claimed that most Americans not being ready to accept challenging films.

“What was it that they didn’t like? The Catholicism and the sex?” the Daily Star quoted her, as saying.

The ‘Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix’ star also admits the strict moral climate in the U.S. is likely to get worse if Republican presidential candidate John McCain triumphs at the forthcoming November (08) election.

She said, “The Americans are going to have to cope with that.” (ANI)
