Honda rules in US roads

On Friday, U.S government’s projection for 2009 showed that Japanese automobile giant Honda Motors ranks top in producing most fuel efficient and least polluting cars for American roads. Environmental Projection Agency’s preliminary data reveals that Honda is closely followed by South Korea’s Hundai-Kia and Toyota Motors in this list.

American car makers generally produce SUVs and vans more in numbers and this type of vehicles have poor fuel mileage and more tailpipe emissions in comparison with sedans and compacts which are mainly manufactured by Asian companies.

Some improvements are already shown by US car manufactures in this year, but they are still far behind from their Asian and European rivals when it comes to fuel efficiency and cleaner engines. In 2009 model year, the total fleet wide average fuel efficiency is expected to be unchanged and carbon emission output is estimated to go down a bit.

Among the European competitors, Volkswagen AG is the top performer and it is placed fourth in the analysis among the nine global manufacturers. Chrysler, the big name is SUVs and Vans, is ranked last in terms of emission. The two most prominent automobile manufacturers in US, Ford Motors and GM Motors both increased their fuel efficiency and reduced emission in this year.
