Jeff Bridges at the Golden Globes 2010: A deserved acclamation for Bridges!

He has widely been counted as among the tallest acting stalwarts that has ever graced the hallowed confines of Hollywood and over the course of his long and illustrious reign in celluloid, he has been held in the same league as the De Niro’s, Nicholson’s and Pacino’s of this world.

Indeed, the veteran Hollywood ace copped heady popular acclaim and made himself a household name through his sheer acting prowess, over a career, spanning several decades.

Further testifying to his tall standing in celluloid lore and his pride of place in the dizzy annals of Hollywood, is the fact that the septuagenerian has won nominations at the Academay awards on numerous ocassions previously but sadly lost out on all of them.

However, having won the Best Actor Globe honor for ‘Crazy Heart’, it is likely that he might finally strike gold on his fifth try.

And about time too!

Over his heady showbiz career, Bridges has featured in a long line of timeless Hollywood classics, namely The Last Picture Show, Tron, Against All Odds, Starman, The Fabulous Baker Boys, The Fisher King, Fearless, The Big Lebowski, Arlington Road, The Contender, Iron Man, Seabiscuit, and not to mention the acclaimed feature of veteran sonstress Barbara Streisand, ‘A Mirror has Two Faces’.

Here’s a brief lookback on the illustrious and exhaustively documented career of this legendary Hollywood actor, who not many know is also a fair musician.

His first major role was in the 1971 movie The Last Picture Show for which he garnered a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He was nominated again for the same award for his performance opposite Clint Eastwood in the 1974 film Thunderbolt and Lightfoot. One of his better known roles was in the 1982 science-fiction cult classic Tron, in which he played Kevin Flynn, a video game programmer.

He was further nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1984 for playing the alien in Starman. He was also acclaimed for his roles in the thriller Against All Odds and the crime drama Jagged Edge. His role in Fearless is recognized by some critics to be one of his best performances.

We can only hope that Jeff would finally break his Oscar jinx this time round!
