Logan City Council mayor slams councillors for ‘blonde bimbo’ comments

Logan City Council Mayor Pam Parker has slammed male councillors for putting her on pressure to get a makeover, as her blonde hair makes her look like a bimbo.

The Queensland mayor says that she’s saddened to be judged by something as superficial as looks, even as Logan City councillors claim they fear her fair hair make her seem a stereotypical “dumb blonde”, and prevent the council from being taken seriously.

Parker revealed that she was saddened by the remarks that have been made behind her back, but refuses to become a brunette, and also branded some of her male councillors as “dinosaurs”.

“My blonde hair is my trademark. I’ve been blonde all my life and I intend to stay blonde,” News.com.au quoted her as saying.

“I think it’s sad that women have to be judged on their appearance.

“I don’t think the people who make these sort of superficial comments actually understand what they are saying, but fortunately I’m too mature to worry about it.

“My husband likes the way I look, which is great, and when I look in the mirror, I like what I see, too,” she stated.

Cr Parker, 53, who is Logan’s first female mayor, is a married mum-of-two, and she was elected as mayor of Logan City Council in March, with 57 per cent of the vote.

“I am always underestimated,” she said.

“But I am a woman of substance who is known for getting the job done for the greater good of the community.

“People should be judged for their ability to deliver, not for the way they look.

“At the end of the day, the people in the community voted for me because I had the right image for Logan.

“Unfortunately, in politics there is more emphasis on the appearance of female politicians than there is on the males,” she added. (ANI)
