In a study comparing tissue from lung cancer patients with tissue from healthy patients, the tumor suppressor gene known as LIMD1 was found to be missing in samples from lung cancer patients, an indication that the gene can suppress the development of lung cancer. Colloborative research by scientists in the U.S. using a mouse model with the LIMD1 gene removed confirmed the findings of the Nottingham team.
