Madhuri Dixit portrays Indira Gandhi in a biopic

The bollywood diva is all set to play the role of India’s first and only woman Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in a biopic to be made by filmmaker Krishna Shah.
The film has been named “Mother: The Indira Gandhi Story” and the event was declared the 92nd birth anniversary of the late prime minister on Thursday. The Golden Globe nominee Shah has been writing the script of the film for the last 23years and the movie is to hit the screen by 2011 end. The pre-production of the film is already done and the shooting is expected to start by April 2010 in India, Britain, US and Russia.
“I have followed Indira Gandhi’s life through media, books and critics. It’s such an exciting and dramatic story. I want the future generation to know her story. A whole new generation has grown and matured since her assassination and through this film I hope to connect people with their history and legacy,” Shah said in the press conference.
Apart from Madhuri in the film, there are some other big names as well. Legend Dharmendra is to play Motilal Nehru while Abhay Deol and Nana Patekar are approached to play Rajeev Gandhi and Jayaprakash Narayan respectively. Hollywood star Tom Hanks or Tommy Lee Jones will probably be playing the role of former US president Lyndon Baines Johnson.
The film will be made into two parts. First part will show starting from Indira’s birth to her victory against Pakistan in 1971 while the second part will cover her political journey from the rise of Sanjay Gandhi till her assassination. The movie will be in Hinglish and will have no songs in it.
It seems Shah has done some real research on Indira project for all these 23years. “It’s such an exciting, dramatic story. The canvas of her life is too big to be contained in one film,” Shah commented on Indira’s life.
