Madonna : Madonna Praised by Malawians for her kind deed

The successful adoption of second Malawian tot by Madonna has made the local residents happy for giving good life to a destitute. The decision to allow Madonna the right to adopt a second Malawian tot has found favour amongst many in the southern African country.
The Queen of Pop was granted full custody of four-year-old Chifundo “Mercy” James after her initial applications were rejected, since the singer was not a resident of the state.
But the decision was overturned by Malawi Supreme Court, saying that the child, who has been living in an orphanage, would have a better life with the megastar.
And the news has prompted a positive response even from those who previously protested over the rights of foreigners to adopt children from the country.
“She is taking Mercy out of a life of destitution; she could have lived in the orphanage until she was old enough to start prostitution,” the BBC quoted Michael Jonas, a curio seller in Blantyre, Malawi’s second-largest city, as saying.
Martha Banda, a university student in Blantyre, said: “I am happy for Mercy. Those who are against the adoption are just plain selfish. How can one say she is better off in an orphanage?”
Telling about Mercy’s family’s reaction, the child’s uncle, Peter Baneti, said: “We, as a family, have been anxiously awaiting this ruling. We are very happy for Chifundo.”
Frank Phiri, a resident in Bvumbwe, where the Mercy orphanage is situated, also said: “I wish other rich people would come here to adopt orphans like Madonna has done. Governments should encourage people to adopt children because living in an orphanage is tough.”
Madonna plans to spend nearly three weeks with Mercy before she sets off for her world tour which starts in 1st week of July.
