Miley Cyrus did it again: ‘Breakout’ tops US album charts

Hannah Montana’ star Miley Cyrus has pipped country stars like Sugarland to claim the top position in the U.S. album charts with her album ‘Breakout’. In the most contested Billboard battle of the year, Miley Cyrus has acquired the number one spot with her second no. 1 album claiming 371,000 first week sales, just about 50,000 more than Sugarland’s ‘Love On The Inside’, reports Contactmusic.

Breakout is the second studio album by American teen pop singer Miley Cyrus. It was released under Hollywood Records on July 22, 2008 in the United States, and has debuted at #1 on US Billboard 200 chart, with first week sales of more than 371,000 copies. The second-biggest sales week of the year for a female artist, following the 463,000 debut of Mariah Carey’s E=MC².

In its first day of release, Breakout sold 110,000 copies.The album was “neck and neck” with Sugarland’s third studio album Love on the Inside, seperated by just 2,000 copies. Within three days, Breakout had sold 205,000 copies, leading Sugarland by 16,000 copies.

Rockers like Kid Rock’s ‘Rock `n’ Roll Jesus’ and Lil Wayne’s ‘Tha Carter III’ round out the new top five on the billboard. Meanwhile, Cyrus, who has been creating ripples with the hit album ‘Breakout’, has decided to take a break from the showbiz to pursue education abroad.
