This film seemingly based on ‘The Party’s Climax’ by Peter Sellers, is a total laugh riot and a non stop comedy sequence. The star cast is just right for each role, even though too many characters mean limited time frame for all of them to make a considerable impact on the audience. This is the sixth movie pairing Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif.Their first one was ‘Humko Deewana Kar Gaye’, followed by ‘Namaste London’, ‘Welcome’, ‘Singh Is Kinng’, ‘Blue’ and now ‘De Dana Dan’.
The plot of the film is as usual with two middle class guys trying to make it big with a sudden turn of luck. Akshay Kumar plays the role of a chauffeur called Nitin who tries to woo super rich girlfriend played by Katrina Kaif. Suniel Shetty plays a courier delivery boy called Ram who is trying to woo Sameera Reddy, who also is the daughter of a stinking rich father. Both the guys need to get hold of a lot of money in order to marry their rich girlfriends.
The entire confusion starts after that when the two kidnap the dog of a rich lady played by Archana Puran Singh. After checking into a hotel they demand one crore from her in exchange of the dog. The dog runs away.
After that there are many characters that are introduced one after another to create a big mess and a comedy of errors. In the muddle there are many who just fit into the frame for being pushed in and out of sliding doors without a dialogue whatsoever.
The cinematography is dealt with in a very sophisticated way. Singapore is captured beautifully and the song sequences are projected very artistically. Music is quite good and the ‘Paisa-Paisa’ number has picked up very well with the audience. The other one that is making news is of course the rain song with Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, the sizzling chemistry is the high selling factor of the film.
The disappointment is that paresh Raval’s character Harbans Chaddha does not have much to offer. There is not much to do for him as he comes after the first half. Another squib is that Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal have no scene to share together in the film which does not go down well with the audience.
On the whole, the movie does have the Priyadarshan trademark of running around mindlessly, but somehow, the magic of his earlier comedy flicks is missing.
