NBC Black History Month menu sparks racism rumors!
The latest and the most ultimate way to spark racism chants were unveiled today. A food menu outside the NBC cafeteria sparked racism rumors big time. This was the only thing which was left with the racism fuss. What I mean to say is, food is at the end of the day food! Right? How can a food menu insult someone or how can people get offended by a food menu?
Racism punishments are so strong in the country that NBC had to literally take down the menu in a jiffy and put a new menu up, engaging the cook to prepare new updated dishes again. All the fuss because of a special Black History Month food menu that had fried chicken, collard greens, corn bread and black eyed peas in it, can you believe it?
Questlove, the drummer of the Roots-Jimmy Fallon’s house band, clicked a photo of the menu and posted on Twitter. Sort frenzy took over the internet alleging the menu was racist.
The African-American chef, who prepares food for NBC since the last 8 years, did not find any racism element in her food.
“All I wanted to do was make a meal that everyone would enjoy — and that I eat myself,” NBC cook Leslie Calhoun told The Post last night.
“I don’t understand at all,” she told NBC partner site TheGrio. “It’s not trying to offend anybody and it’s not trying to suggest that that’s all that African-Americans eat. It’s just a good meal. I thought it would go over well.”
She had been pleading for a special Black History Month menu for years and finally got her green signal today and what a blunder it turned out to be. All she planned was to serve special food every Thursday of this month.
“I don’t write up the menu… that comes from upstairs. But, I guess at this point it’s safe to assume that we won’t be going with the dog casserole for Asian American Month,” she said.
Now she is really about next Thursday’s special meal.

It looks like we live in a society where people always want to be treated equally and included in societal norms. These wants are quickly followed by criticism, and scrutiny. People of all races like to be included then turn around and complain about how they were included. The foods on the menu are tasty and delicious. Whether black, white, asian or anything else food is universal, and some of the most special things from the different cultures around the world are derived from our menus. I see nothing racist about the menu and its attempt to recognize black history month. Its the same as margaritas and tacos being eaten and drank on cinco de mayo. All mexicans do not sit around and eat tacos and drink margaritas, but those are staples that we as americans recognize as a part of the Mexican culture. Greens, corn bread, and black are peas are staples of African American culture. I am a black man, and the menu in an African American household does not define my culture as a whole, but i am not embarrassed of those dishes and i wish i had a plate right now!!..We need to stop being so sensitive and be proud of our dishes, heritage, and intricate details that make up our culture!
