Paul McCartney : Sir Paul McCartney’s band denies copying Blind Willie Johnson track

‘The Fireman’, created by co-founder Sir Paul McCartney, has dismissed allegations that the band had lifted a song by Blind Willie Johnson for their latest track ‘Light From Your Lighthouse’.

The group insisted that Johnson’s ‘Let Your Light Shine On Me’, itself based on a renowned gospel composition, had served only as ‘inspiration’ in their material for their latest album ‘Electric Arguments’.

“It’s true that The Fireman used the Blind Willie Johnson track as inspiration for our own song,” Contactmusic quoted them as telling NME.com.

“His is a traditional song and this is not the first time an artist has made their own version using such a traditional song,” the duo added.

Sir Paul had collaborated with Youth to dub their electronic music experiments ‘The Fireman’, with the duo releasing their first album ‘Strawberries Oceans Ships Forest’ as early as in 1993. (ANI)
