Stan Lee wants to make Will Smith ‘Captain America’ – if Barack Obama wins

Popular comic book creator Stan Lee wants Hollywood actor Will Smith to be his first black Captain America, if Presidential candidate Barack Obama wins.
Lee’s Marvel graphic novel is to be made into a motion picture in 2011.
It had been reported earlier that Matthew McConaughey was being approached for the lead role, but Lee, the creator of phenomenal Spiderman, has stated that the lead role may fall in Will’s lap if Obama wins.
“I would love us to do something with Will Smith. It would be a real leap to make Captain America black… then again, I don’t know. It might be a really smart thing,” Contactmusic quoted Lee, as saying.
“If Barack Obama becomes President who knows… suddenly a lot of our characters will be black!” he added. (ANI)

Please stop propagating this story. He said “real leap…I don’t know…”
What in the world does the current president have to do with staying true to the comics when adapting them to movies?
There are black superheroes already. Many have yet to be adapted to film. There is no reason to change one of the most well known superheroes of all time simply because of a presidential election.
Would they make the Falcon white if McCain gets elected? Would they make Bucky a female also since his VP is female?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of Mr Smith, but he is no Captain America.October 5th, 2008 at 9:07 am -

On the event that Obama crooks and threatens enough votes to get elected, it won’t just be comic characters that will be changed. There will come a time when comics will no longer be allowed to exist.
