Sylvester Stallone will receive Glory to the Filmmaker award at Venice Film Festival this year. Organisers have described him as "very original filmmaker" and added that his films were "capable of tenderness even when dripping with blood".
They said in a statement: "(Stallone’s work) has explored the brightest and darkest areas of the American dream."
The ‘Rambo’ star is happy he is being recognised at the Italian event in which his stint as an actor and director in Hollywood will be one of the major highlights.
"Being honoured at the Venice Film Festival is something I have always hoped would become a reality and now that it’s actually happened, it’s been well worth the wait," Contactmusic quoted him as saying.
The award is generally given to "a person who has left a mark on contemporary cinema." The 66th Venice Film Festival is scheduled from 2 September to 12 September.
