“It was terrifying. My mum wrote the script and she actually originally wrote the other character Caitlin (played by Sienna Miller) for me … but then I chose the character Vera and she said OK, then I am going to put singing into it,” The Daily Telegraph quoted her, as sayinig.

She added: “I did actually have to sing live when there were a couple of hundred extras around and I was absolutely terrified. I thought my knees were going to buckle, and the first couple of takes I sounded like a pubescent boy.”

The name “scablands” perfectly suits the scarred and wounded landscape, which baffled most geologists throughout the 19th century and much of the 20th. To them, no plausible explanation fit all the facts.

As per Wiki, The “Scablands” were apparently created by the cataclysmic Missoula Floods that swept periodically across eastern Washington and down the Columbia River Plateau during the Pleistocene epoch. Geologist J Harlen Bretz coined the term in a series of papers in the 1920s. Debate over the origin of the Scablands raged for four decades and is one of the great debates in the history of earth science.

NOVA takes viewers on a virtual tour inside a glacier to see how tremendous pressure creates tunnels of supercooled water that, over time, fatally weaken the structure of an ice dam, causing it to fail. The current plot twist to the scablands story is that a deluge happened not once, but repeatedly, as ice dams reformed and the glacial lake refilled, only to empty again and again onto the scarred terrain of what is now eastern Washington.

As per reports, Peaches ceased to breathe for several minutes and would have died or suffered brain damage had her friend not given her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and chest compressions to keep oxygen pumping to her brain.

When the emergency crew finally got to her flat on July 20 afternoon, they found the 19-year-old unconscious.

The part-time TV presenter was successfully revived at her flat in trendy Camden, North London, though she was very terrified and began sobbing hysterically.

She then refused to be admitted to the hospital for fear her rock legend dad, organiser of the Live Aid charity concerts, would find out.

Sir Bob Geldof, 56, had in the past said that he would go “ballistic” if Peaches ever turned to drugs.

“Peaches could not breathe for several minutes after suffering a respiratory arrest. Her friend had to give chest pumps and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation,” the Sun quoted a source as saying.

“If she had not received this she could have died or she could have suffered brain damage. Peaches had gone into respiratory arrest, in which a patient’s breathing stops but the heart doesn’t.

“It was extremely serious and there is no doubt her friend saved her life,” the source said.

“No one could believe this has happened to Sir Bob Geldof’s daughter, particularly considering what happened to her mother,” another source added.

Amazingly when she regained consciousness, Peaches shouted at the paramedics who helped her.

The source added: “When she came too she started mouthing off and told the ambulance crew, ‘You have to respect my privacy’. She then told them to get out.

“And she refused to go hospital to have further treatment because she was worried about it getting out.”

London Ambulance confirmed its crews attended the scene. A spokeswoman said: “We were called shortly before 4:45pm yesterday (Sunday) to an address in London N1, to reports of a female patient taken ill.

“We sent an ambulance, a bicycle responder and a fast response car to the scene.  “Following assessment, the patient did not need hospital treatment.” (ANI)

Hince, who is the guitarist for The Kills, was supposed to have joined her for the trip, but after a tiff decided not to go.

Moss is said to have received a number of texts from him after she was spotted chatting to handsome men.

“Who’s the hunk on the yacht you’re gazing at?” Daily Express quoted him to have asked her.

The move was a deliberate one, with the rumour going around that Moss is angry with Hince for not paying her much attention.

“Kate deliberately, and in full view of the photographers, chatted to a range of good-looking male guests, friends of her chums Davinia Taylor and her husband Dave Gardner, who hosted the trip,” a friend said.

Hince wants a romantic holiday in Thailand and Moss has not agreed to it as yet, but she probably will agree to it at the last moment.

“Kate spent a lot of time on the yacht texting Jamie but refused to pick up the phone to him. That was her way of letting him sweat and making sure he really appreciates her,” the friend said.

“Having said that, everyone was winding up Kate about the fact that she kept looking at her phone,” the friend added. (ANI)

Blake may soon be released from Pentonville prison after spending nine months for beating up a pub landlord.

His mom Georgette is adamant on keeping her son away from Winehouse in order to relieve him from his addiction to drugs, as she plans to hand a letter to the judge pleading to keep him at her home in Lincolnshire.

The news however, has Amy furious.

“She has been left furious by what she has heard. She wanted to celebrate Blake’s release from prison with all their friends” Daily Star quoted a source close to Winehouse, as saying.

“Amy thought the moment would be really special, and now it might not happen at all,” the source added.

According to the grapevine Georgette, 45, is scared to death that her son would get back to his old ways if he stays with Winehouse.

“I also fear that if Blake and Amy lock themselves in a hotel room there is a real danger they will take a drugs overdose,” Georgette said.

Enraged by all the commotion in her plans Winehouse was spotted acting erratic while drinking with pals, however Winehouse plans to attend her husband’s court hearing according to her spokesperson. (ANI)

Stephen Reed has begged his singer daughter, who is expecting her second child by her partner, Welsh rugby star Gavin Henson, to let him back into her life.

“Please get in contact with me – I still love you,” The Daily Express has quoted Reed, as saying.

A computer engineer by profession, Reed wants to hold his 10-month-old granddaughter Ruby, Charlotte’s first child, in his arms.

“It upsets me very much that I’ve got a grandchild who I don’t know and another on the way, but what can I do?” he said.

When Charlotte was just two years old, Reed walked out on her mother Maria, and she then adapted the surname of her stepfather, her mother’s second husband James Church who adopted her.

The 22-year-old singer has clearly stated that she has no plans to start afresh with Stephen or his immediate family.

She said: “They are strangers to me. I don’t know if they are moral. Ignorance is bliss. I’m staying in my own ignorant bubble, right or wrong.”

However, Stephen claims that the former ‘Voice of an Angel’ and now TV presenter’s hates him because she has been brainwashed into thinking he is a bad parent.

He said: “My message to Charlotte is – if it concerns you that much, come and find out what I’m really like. There are some people who are obviously trying to drive a wedge between us and keep us separated. People have told her things about me that are abhorrent.

“There have been very many appropriate points in time when I have tried to get in contact with Charlotte, but they haven’t worked out. Obviously, Charlotte only has one side of the story. The truth is, relationships don’t work out and people split up and you either get to keep in contact with your dad or you don’t.”

The last time he tried to see Charlotte was shortly after Ruby was born in September last year.

“The reaction I got was, ‘Go away’. I was passing by and the intention was just to say hello. Gavin’s mother was there – she seemed really nice. But she said she didn’t want any arguments. She went and asked her but Charlotte didn’t want to hear,” he said.

Angry over allegations Rodriguez is facing, several friends think it’s time to reveal his side of the story.

“Alex has always been into psychotherapy, making himself mentally stronger,” the New York Daily News quoted a pal, as saying.

“He’s had several therapists. Cynthia has a master’s degree in psychology. Once she found out how vulnerable he was, she got into his head. Several of us begged him not to marry this woman, but he did it anyway,” the pal added.

According to several of his friends, the cultural divide between her Orthodox Greek upbringing and his Dominican heritage quickly became apparent.

“She said she wanted him to become a mainstream sports star. She didn’t want him typecast as a Latin player. She discouraged him from taking part in Hispanic community events,” a friend said.

Another friend said: “She wouldn’t even let him eat Spanish food. She didn’t like him hanging out with old buddies from Washington Heights.”

“When you keep a man caged, he’s going to go crazy when you let him out,” added a friend.

Pals have also revealed that sometime in the past year, Rodriguez asked Cynthia for a divorce.

“He said, ‘I hate this. I want out,’ but she kept insisting they could work it out. After about six months of him asking for a divorce, she said it was okay for him to see other people, but she wouldn’t agree to a separation,” a friend said.

As far as Cynthia’s claims are concerned that her husband had an ‘affair of the heart’ with Madonna ‘ and that the singer ‘brainwashed him’, one pal said: “Cynthia’s the reason Alex met Madonna. She kept hounding him to call [Madonna's manager] Guy Oseary and get them backstage at one of her concerts. Cynthia brainwashed him, not Madonna.”

The Women’s Sport and Fitness Foundation has claimed that overall, 81 per cent are doing too little exercise, with less than one in 10 young women playing any competitive sport.

However, according to WSFF, the problem is worsened by ideas that exercise is “masculine” and women don’t like showing their bodies.

And if such trends continue, the Foundation has cautioned that in 2017, there would only be one in 20 women who will be doing enough exercise.

Culture and Sports Secretary Andy Burnham will be launching the Commission on the Future of Women’s Sport, chaired by paralympian Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, who will call for more cash and a higher profile for women’s sports which get 50 times less media coverage than men’s.

“I have seen for myself many of the inequalities that women and girls have to put up with in this country,” The Mirror quoted her, as saying.

Sports minister Gerry Sutcliffe said: “We must challenge perceptions and get more women of all ages to give sport a try. Women’s sport must get the media coverage it deserves.” (ANI)

The 19 pairs of shoes designed by world renowned fashion icons Alberta Ferretti, Christian Louboutin, Diane von Furstenberg, Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik, Moschino, Oscar de la Renta and rocker Gwen Stefani will first be unveiled at New York department Saks Fifth Avenue after which the collection will be displayed at New York fashion week and finally after touring all over USA the collection will be auctioned off, with proceeds going to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Many of the catwalk creations by the French fashion icon, who died last month were inspired by his collection that adorned the works by Picasso, Matisse, Mondrian, Léger, Brancusi and de Chirico.

Being sold by Pierre Berge, Saint Laurent’s business partner and companion, his prestigious art-collection will be auctioned by Christie’s in February in Paris’s Grand Palais.

Laurent’s collection also includes ancient Roman works, Renaissance statues, paintings by Ingres, Goya and Warhol, art deco furniture and silver.

Though Christie’s did not reveal much about the collection, it is claimed to be “simply extraordinary, one of the most beautiful art collections in the world” by an expert, reports The Times Online.

While the auction will be held in association with Berge’s own auction house, Pierre Berge & Associates, the proceeds of the sale will go to the Paris foundation created by Saint Laurent and Berge to preserve his work. (ANI)

Bon Jovi has so far attracted the biggest concert of 2008, and has made 55million pounds around the globe and won rave reviews for their gigs.

However, they didn’t make any friends with The Feeling when they played on the UK leg of the tour after ignoring them. “You would have thought Jon would have at least said hi to us,” the Sun quoted frontman Dan Gillespie as saying.

“They go as far as to close off corridors when they’re in them – your Access All Areas pass doesn’t count,” he said. “We were treated like a support act, which was strange considering we were a billed band,” bassist Richard Jones added. (ANI)

According to New Idea magazine, Driver was spotted bathing on a Malibu beach close to where Farrell was swimming.

The pair, who have been friends for years, were also reportedly sporting new rings.

Driver has denied the father is musician Craig Zolezzi, and has also refused to reveal who the father is.

“I’m not married and I don’t know if I will stay with the guy,” The NZPA quoted Driver, as telling told talk show host Jay Leno.

“He has been her saviour. It was a horrible period and she was on the brink of disaster but she looks wonderful now. You can see the happiness in her eyes,” the Sun quoted one as saying.

Jamie put an end to Spears’ all-night benders on Red Bull and amphetamine-based prescription drug Adderall, the erratic drives around LA and the late-night shopping sprees.

For Spears getting rid of her demons is a big issue and she has been doing it by dancing. She is a regular visitor at Hollywood’s Millennium Dance Complex and has been teaching kids.

“Britney is using dance as part of her therapeutic efforts to come back,” owner Robert Baker said.  “We are all excited and happy that she’s getting her life back,” he added. (ANI)

Apparently the burglars took away a guitar worth 1,000 euros and three unique paintings the singer created with his own blood, reports the Sun.

The movie adaptation of Jules Verne’s classic ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth’ starring Brendan Fraser was the fourth highest grossing, raking in 11.9 million dollars.

The top five was rounded off by ‘Hellboy II: The Golden Army’ which took in 10 million dollars over the weekend.

Co-star Gemma Arterton reveals that though Criag, at 5ft 10in, is not short by any standards, he still didn’t quite measure up to her when she put on her high heels.

“Daniel is 5ft 10in, but when they put me in heels I was taller than him and it didn’t look good on screen,” the Daily Star quoted her, as saying.

“The whole point of Bond is that he is masculine and hunky and he has to be taller than his girlfriend.

“Daniel had to wear shoes with a lift in them and stacked heels for a few scenes – but he took it very well. He thought it was funny,” she added.

However, she’s quick to add that Craig doesn’t wear stacked shoes throughout the movie.

“Daniel is the sexiest Bond ever.  He didn’t have to wear the special shoes during the whole film, just for the scenes where they wanted me in stilettos.”

The actor is a bit touchy about his height, knowing that he is the only Bond not to break the 6ft barrier.

He previously refused to talk about his height, telling one interviewer: “Let’s just say I am somewhere between 5ft and 6ft.”

Sean Connery, 77, and Timothy Dalton, 62, were both 6ft 2in, while Roger Moore, 80, and suave Pierce Brosnan, 55, were just a shade shorter at 6ft 11/2in. (ANI)

“I am still acting like a 17-year-old. I definitely haven’t become middle-aged,” the Independent quoted her as telling American Vogue magazine.

Besides partying, the model also has other ideas on how to enjoy her life and use her estimated 45m pounds fortune. One of the ideas being to get herself some extravagant toys, like a private jet.

“I’m going to call it the ‘Kate Express’,” she said.

With flying in style being one of her wishes, driving a classic Rolls Royce is another.

“I am looking for an old Seventies Corniche. It’s a Rolls-Royce. I want one for the country. That’s what I’d like to buy now,” she revealed.

Moss’ recent acquisition is a Hackney cab, which she uses to take her friends to favoured nightspots.

The filmmaker has revealed that he will make six or seven movies in the coming half-decade.

This will be almost double than the number of movies he has made since his Brad Pitt starrer criminal underworld movie ‘Snatch‘ hit the theatres in 2000.

“It’s my intention to be very busy over the next five years,” The Daily Express quoted him, as saying.

With his latest flick, RocknRolla, around the corner, the 39-year-old director listed some of his projects, including an action- heavy “reimagining” of Victorian sleuth Sherlock Holmes, with Robert Downey Jnr, and a possible remake of ‘The Dirty Dozen’ and two sequels to ‘RocknRolla’.

He said: “I’ve written a second one and I’ve got a third mapped out. At one point I wanted to shoot three in one hit. I like these kinds of films. They are very watchable from where I’m sat, so I’d shoot the whole lot. And I think we probably have five or six projects that we’re pretty sure we’re going to make. I kind of fancy myself at making films quite quickly.” (ANI)

Experts say that violence, menacing themes and Ledger’s flesh-creeping Joker push the film into adults-only territory, for it could seriously disturb children.

“Parents who take their kids along to this film are under-rating the kind of impact it will have,” theage.com.au quoted children’s media analyst Lee Burton, as saying.

“The dilemma for parents is that every other child at school is going to see it, but really they have to be firm and simply say no. It’s not so much the violence, it’s the impact of watching someone like the Joker who obviously is immoral, who glories in evil and loves cruelty. That’s what children remember and worry about and have nightmares about,” he added.

Directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale as Batman and the late Ledger as the Joker, it is the darkest of the Batman films and a long way from Adam West’s camp caped crusader of the 1960s TV series.

‘The Dark Knight,’ which has been rated ‘M’ by the Classifications Board, is not recommended for children under 15.

The Classifications Board noted the disturbing impact of having a main character with a grotesquely disfigured face.

Despite its concerns, the board opted for an advisory M rating rather than the tougher MA15+, which restricts kids from seeing the film except in the company of a parent or guardian.

“Throughout the film there are frequent action sequences which include explosions, car chases and crashes, machine-gun and shot-gun fire and stylised fight sequences,” the board’s report states.

“In the board’s view the stylised and implicit nature of the visuals and the ‘fantasy’ storyline serve to mitigate the viewing impact of the violence,” the report added.

Classifications Operations Branch project officer Claire Bowdler said that an M rating indicated violence that was moderate in viewing impact.

“The consumer advice for Dark Knight indicates the element that pushed this film into that next category was violence,” she said.

“That tells you that all the other elements in the film like sex, language and nudity are PG, but it was the action violence that pushed it up into the M level. We say it’s not suitable for people under 15; however, it’s up to the parents’ discretion,” she added. (ANI)

In fact, women Down Under have proclaimed themselves the “yummy mummies”, according to a new survey.

Only 1 per cent of the 3865 Australian women surveyed named a celebrity as the ideal mother, saying women such as Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss and Gwen Stefani promoted an unrealistic image of parenthood.

However, 49 per cent of mothers described themselves as hot mammas minus the designer handbags and teetering high heels.

While fashion is low on the agenda for new mothers, 16 percent of the women surveyed rated their appearance as being of high importance.

More than half the women said they were happy with their post-baby bodies and 15percent said they felt better about their appearance since becoming a mother.

“There’s nothing like a baby to put things in perspective. Your whole outlook changes and you care more about your baby than whether you have the latest designer bag,” Sydney Morning Herald quoted Leanne Philpott, of Freshwater, mother of 10-month-old Nia, as saying.

A quarter of all the mothers surveyed said what makes a mummy yummy is “happiness and good health” and “pride in their families and ability as a mother”.

“A yummy mummy is a confident, happy mum looking after both her children and herself,” said one respondent in the survey conducted by baby products manufacturer Tommee Tippee. (ANI)

The star, who struck stardom with Aliens movies, recalled in an interview that once at the age of nine she asked her mum if she thought she was pretty and her mom gave her a cold reply, reports The Mirror.

“No dear, you’re just plain,” her mom said.

However, the actress said that in the last years of her mum’s life, the duo forged a special bond and they had found peace by the time Elizabeth died, 11 months ago, due to natural causes.

“I was with her when she died, she’d had a tough couple of years. She was 94 and, luckily, I had been able to spend quite a bit of time with her. She had a very peaceful end, I was holding her hand,” said Sigourney.

She added: “I just get the sense that she is quite content, that her energy is busy somewhere and it has been set free. It was her birthday yesterday, so I went to the Hampton Court Flower Show. It was lovely and a nice way to spend her birthday, even in the mud. She had really lived her life. I miss her but I feel she is still with me.”

The 58-year-old star disclosed that her mom taught her children not to show emotion early on in life.

“We had a difficult relationship. My mother was a difficult person to know. She was very, very private. There were lots of mother-daughtery things that we never got a chance to do,” said Sigourney.

Now herself a mother of an 18-year-old daughter, Charlotte, with her husband Jim Simpson, Sigourney said: “Sometimes it helps to become a mother yourself. I think she made wise decisions for us.

“But she wasn’t the cuddliest mummy in the world. She had a formality to her which perhaps was her upbringing, and you had to get through that. I admire her, and all these things about her, but we didn’t really become close friends until towards the end.” (ANI)

Fielder-Civil could be released from prison on July 20 – and his parents have written to the judge pleading for him to order their son to stay at the family home in Lincolnshire to keep him away from the singer’s drug-fuelled lifestyle.

Giles and Georgette Civil want their 26-year-old son to stay away from the ‘Rehab singer’ until she cleans up her act.

“Amy thinks Blake will be freed on Monday but it’s not good news,” News of the World quoted Georgette, as saying.

“I’m absolutely dreading it because I don’t want him to go straight back to Amy.

“If he does it could be a death sentence for the two of them.

“Blake thinks he’s going to be Amy’s savior and has every intention to try to stop the drugs.

“But Amy is completely unstable. Blake is a recovering addict and he’s not strong enough to resist the temptation.

“If they are reunited I know they will be back on drugs within days. The dealers will swarm round Blake and Amy. They are meal tickets for the dealers.

“Then the police will get called, Blake will be arrested and sent back to prison.

“I also fear that if Blake and Amy lock themselves in a hotel room there is a real danger they will take a drugs overdose.

“Giving him and Amy another chance is like putting a gun to Blake’s head while playing Russian Roulette.

“Once he is with Amy, he won’t even be allowed to take my phone calls. I will have lost him to drugs.

“I’m going to give the letter to the court usher to hand to the judge. I want Blake free but I want him in an environment that is safe-without Amy. We want the judge to send Blake home to be with his parents, brothers and grandparents.

“I know if he goes home to me, instead of her, Amy will go berserk. But what she needs is tough love.

“Amy should get herself back into rehab and stay there as long as is necessary to get her off drugs. She needs to prove that she loves him enough to stop. Then, once they are both drugs-free, they can have a real future together.

“I believe Amy would rather die with Blake than not have him. I don’t want my son to die with her or without her but I fear Amy will whisk Blake away from us and we won’t get him back,” she added. (ANI)

The rambling rocker is now having double minds as to whether he loves his wife or Ekaterina Ivanova, with whom he fled to County Kildare on a two-week booze-bender.

“Ronnie is in a real state. He’s so confused he’s forgetting what’s happening for long periods,” News of the World quoted a source, as saying.

Firstly the 61-year-old musician made drunken phone calls to his betrayed wife Jo, to talk about Ivanova.

He told her: “I love Ekaterina, I don’t f***ing love you any more.”

Still, moments later, he again telephoned her, saying: “I’m not gonna take anymore of this cr*p. I love you.”

In the meantime, it seems the confusion has even touched his 53-year-old wife, who is threatening to divorce Ronnie one minute and then agreeing to have marriage counselling with him the next.

Ronnie has been in The Priory since July 15 when he returned to Britain in a private jet, only after eldest son Jesse, 30, flew to County Kildareto talk sense into him. (ANI)

The concert, which will be held on Sunday (20Jul08), is part of the ongoing fight to free hostages, Contactmusic reported.

Shakira met up with Ingrid Betancourt, who is a former Colombian presidential candidate and a recently released FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) captive, on Wednesday (16Jul08), to raise awareness of her plight.

Shakira will join Colombian pop star Carlos Vives for the Independence Day concert.

The event is aimed at pressuring FARC, which is recognised as a terrorist group by the Colombian government, to release its estimated 700 prisoners. (ANI)

In an interview to U.S. news show The Insider former mistress Kristi Kaufmann had showed the paternal letters he sent to Ashley while he was serving time behind bars for DUI and other charges in 2005.

Michael Lohan revealed that he use to send her letters because her mother had him believing the girl was his lovechild.

“She actually had me believing I was her daddy and I actually put that in the letters. I said, ‘Call me daddy’,” Contactmusic quoted him as saying.

“But after what I’ve read and what I’ve heard and what I’ve found out, there’s a chance I’m not,” he added.

Meanwhile, Michael is waiting for the DNA test results, which will determine whether or not he really is the 13-year-old’s father. (ANI)

If sources are to be believed, the Toxic singer’s record bosses are having trouble getting her to record her new album.

Recently in a statement accompanied by a set of photos of Spears leaving a recording studio, Spears’ manager Larry Rudolph claimed he and Jive
were “very excited about what she’s accomplished so far,” adding “No album release date has been confirmed yet.”

However it has been claimed that the 26-year-old singer set-up the snaps that accompanied Rudolph’s words after her bosses at JIVE feared Spears wasn’t taking her music comeback seriously.

“Britney wants to focus on her TV and movie career right now,” Contactmusic quoted a source, as telling New York Post.

“Jive and Larry are having trouble getting her to record, so they forced her hand with the statement and photo releases,” the source added.

Spears’ last album, Blackout, was released in October (07).
