‘The Golden Compass’ sequel canned

It’s confirmed now- a sequel to the fantasy film ‘The Golden Compass‘ will not be made, due to constant protests from the Catholic Church, revealed the movie’s author.

The Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman starrer was criticised last year for being anti-God and anti-religion, not only by scholars but also by The Vatican.

And now Philip Pullman-who wrote the ‘His Dark Materials‘ trilogy, on which the film is based- has said that he has not been contacted for a second instalment of the film.

This has confirmed that the next film in the series will not be made, what with film studio New Line Cinema refusing to discuss the future of the trilogy.

“When the first film was in production, I was talking to the studio and to (writer/director) Chris Weitz and producers quite frequently. I’m sure I would be now if the sequel was in production,” Contactmusic quoted him, as saying.

However, he has confessed that he is still looking forward to see another ‘Compass’ movie on the big screen.

“I know everyone would like to see a sequel and I know I’d like to see it,” he said. (ANI)

      This is truly disappointing.
Whatever happened to freedom of speech.
Is the church so threatened by a movie?
Hopefully the public will cry out for a sequel so that the movie makers will change their minds.
      We want a sequel, Please.

It is really a shame that the Vatican spends it’s time being a film critic when it should spend more time worrying about their own troubles such as all the priests that have been caught molesting our children breaking thier vows. I would hope that this would be a higher priority for the Vatican to prevent then to set around critizing others for exercising their freedom of choice of what books or movies people want to read or watch. I was always taught that you have an opinion but before speaking it you check your own baggage before you judge or fault someone elses. The Vatican does not have a right to demand someone not to write a book or make a movie that is controversial about religion or if someone has a different belief that is different than what the Catholic Church believes. That is why there is a right to freedom of religion. I think it would be best for all to let people make their own decisions on what they want to read or watch or what parents want their children to read or watch.

As boring as it sounds, the Vatican had nothing to do with the cancellation of the sequel. If there were a few dollars to be made by producing a sequel it would have gone ahead. Unfortunately New Line made bugger all from the first movie and there won’t be a second.

I totally cannot believe how much time the Church is spending to protest a film! How can a huge empire like the church feel threatened by a fantasy movie? They have so many other things to worry about, and being such a huge fan of Phillip Pullman’s beautiful Dark Materials Trilogy I must say it breaks my heart hearing this news. So many characters are introduced and Will Parry is awesome UGH this is awful. F*&K THE CHURCH.

And then the Pope visits George Bush on an election year. No problems shaking the hand of a man that made up lies to justify a war that slaughtered many. That’s okay but no more “Golden Compass” films. And we call that, “Having morals”???
