ARIA Hall of Fame will witness the honoring of Australian band The Triffids and This is a great event which honors and recognizes the well-established and iconic status of The Triffids and Max Meritt.
The Triffids were an Australian rock band who achieved some international success in the 1980s. Formed in Perth in the late 1970s and disbanded in 1989, their best known songs are “Wide Open Road” and “Bury Me Deep in Love”. Their vocalist and principal songwriter was David McComb (1962-1999). Lead singer David McComb died in 1999 after complications from a heart transplant.
Max Merritt is a New Zealand-born singer-songwriter and guitarist who is renowned as an interpreter of soul music and R&B. As leader of Max Merritt & The Meteors his best known hits are “Slippin’ Away” and “Hey, Western Union Man”, Merritt rose to prominence in New Zealand from 1958 and relocated to Sydney Australia in December 1964.Merritt was acknowledged as one of the best local performers of 1960s and 1970s and his influence did much to popularise soul music / R&B and rock in New Zealand and Australia.
The Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) is a trade group representing the Australian recording industry. It oversees the collection, administration and distribution of music licenses and royalties. The association has more than a hundred members, including small labels typically run by one to five people, medium size organisations and very large companies with international affiliates. ARIA is administered by a Board of Directors comprising senior executives from record companies, both large and small.
