‘Twilight’ makes one of the largest presales in Hollywood’s history

Even before hitting movie theatres, more than 2,000 showings of teen vampire love story ‘Twilight’ had been sold out in United States – making one of the largest presales in big-screen history – a prominent ticket seller has said.

According to movie ticketing outfit Fandango, the heavily hyped film is the third-most popular pre-sale flick in company history, trailing only “The Dark Knight” and top-selling “Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.”

Jumping ahead of “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” and “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”, “Twilight” grabbed Fandango’s No. 3 spot for pre-sale supremacy.

Fandango pre-sold out more than 50 “Twilight” showings in New York City alone.

“The impressive advance ticket sales are clearly the result of the growing Internet buzz from the novel’s online fans,” New York Post quoted Fandango COO Rick Butler, as saying.

“We haven’t had this kind of Internet buzz for a movie since ‘Sex and the City’ and ‘Cloverfield,’ ” said movie-industry analyst Jeff Bock of Exhibitor Relations. (ANI)
