Van Morrison : Van Morrison calls Beatles ‘meaningless’

Irish singer Van Morrison has slammed legendary band ‘The Beatles’, saying that the Fab Four’s music was “meaningless” to him.

The veteran star insisted that the ‘Hey Jude’ hitmakers were “peripheral” in the history of music.

Morrison has claimed that the 1960s superstars should not be revered as the pioneers of pop, as musicians before them also produced great music.

“You measure things in terms of the Beatles. We don’t think music started there,” the Daily Express quoted Morrison as saying.

He added: “The Beatles were peripheral. If you had more knowledge of music, it didn’t really mean anything. To me, it was meaningless.” (ANI)

The Beatles may have been meaningless to Mr. Morrison, but that certailnly doesn’t stand as a truth for the rest of the world. To the MILLIONS of people who have been, and continue to be touched by The Beatles, their work stands as monumental as any of the true greats.

Not only did they permanently change popular music, for the better, I might add, they did something no other popular entertainers have done since: They changed the culture of the entire First World.

It’s one thing for John Lennon to downplay their success, but it’s an entirely different manner for another singer to do so.

Mr. Morrison’s statement makes him seem shallow, uninformed, jealous, envious, and snarky. If anyone is peripheral and meaningless, it is Van Morrison. He reveals himself to be nothing more than an old crank.

Van’s made some great music, but it’s no secret that he’s a difficult personality and not easy to like him. Some might simply say he’s an “a-hole” and leave it at that.

F**K YOU, Van Morrison. Thanks for letting us know your dimwitted opinion. Frankly, I doubt he would have had a musical career had The Beatles not opened the door for him.

God, I wish I could just put my foot in his fat face now!

Right on, Van! I have always thought the Beatles were the most overrated band in the history of music, and have never understood the devotion of people to them. They were a pop phenomenon, hardly the kind of deep meaningful music that 1960s culture produced. And if you want straight up early rock ‘n roll music, why not start where it began: Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, and their generation of 1950s-60s stuff?
