Jaden Smith, son of actor-rapper Will Smith and actress-singer Jada Pinkett Smith, will star in a ‘Karate Kid’ remake.
The 10-year-old, who made his film debut in the Oscar-nominated “The Pursuit of Happyness” as the son of his father’s character, will lead the role that shot the then-young star Ralph Macchio to glory with the 1984 hit.
Jaden’s rep confirmed the casting of the actor-dancer in the martial arts remake that depicts a young boy learning to take his own stand by using martial arts as he is guided by an eccentric mentor, reports the New York Daily News.
While shooting of the Colombia Pictures remake is set to begin next year, Jaden is said to have already started working for his role by becoming a martial arts practitioner.
The new film, which will borrow aspects of the original plot, will be produced by Jerry Weintraub, who helped launch the original series. (ANI)
