Willie Mitchell -Music producer rests in peace!

Willie Mitchell, the soul, R&B, rock and roll, pop and funk music producer and arranger who ran Royal Recording in Memphis, Tennessee and was best known for his Hi Records label of the 1970s, which released albums by a large stable of popular Memphis soul artists, including Mitchell himself, Al Green, Syl Johnson and Ann Peebles passed away this morning in his hometown of Memphis at the age of 81.

He started playing the trumpet at 8, was a featured player in popular local big bands in high school, and formed his own combo after passing out school. musicians such as trumpeter Booker Little, saxophonists Charles Lloyd, and George Coleman, and pianist Phineas Newborn, Jr. joined his group from time to time. He released a number of popular singles for Hi Records as an artist in the 1960s, including “Soul Serenade.”

May the legend rest in peace and may his music live on till eternity.
