Yogi Bear set for big screen makeover

William Hanna and Joseph Barbera’s classic cartoon character Yogi Bear and his sidekick Boo-Boo are all set for a big screen makeover.

The movie, which will be directed by Ash Brannon, will combine animation with live action footage like the Alvin & The Chipmunks movie, which was a 2007 hit, the BBC reported.

Academy Award-nominated director Brannon, who has worked on Toy Story 2 and A Bugs Life in the past, will be following Yogi Bear’s antics in eluding his archenemy Ranger Smith in Jellystone Park.

Yogi Bear had made his debut in 1958 as a supporting character on The Huckleberry Hound Show, and from 1961, he started starring in his own series, The Yogi Bear Show.

Yogi Bear happened to be one of several Hanna-Barbera characters to have a collar, which allowed the head to be animated separately, thus reducing production costs.

The movie will be produced by Warner Bros. (ANI)
